LA JOLLA, CA - August 16, 2009 - The International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) in conjunction with The DAISY Consortium has chartered a Working Group to continue the development of the EPUB standard. The Working Group will issue corrections to standard, produce a validation suite, and solicit technical requires for the next major version of the standard. eBook Technologies, Inc (ETI) President, Garth Conboy, will server as vice-chair of the Working Group. Mr. Conboy commented in the IDPF press release as follows: “As EPUB is rapidly gaining momentum, it’s great to see such wide industry interest in performing the technical work to keep the trio of standards that make up EPUB error free and modern. This effort will serve the industry well.”Details of the Working Group’s authorized activities can be found in its IDPF charter. The IDPF is a trade and standards organization dedicated to the development and promotion of electronic publishing (http://www.idpf.org). The IDPF is responsible for the standardization and dissemination of the EPUB electronic publication standard. EPUB enables the creation and transport of reflowable digital books and other types of content as single-file digital publications that are interoperable between disparate EPUB-compliant reading devices and applications. EPUB encompasses a content markup standard (Open Publication Structure - OPS), a packaging standard (Open Packaging Format - OPF), and a container standard (Open Container Format - OCF). ETI’s senior staff have played pivotal roles in the organization since it’s inception. Garth Conboy (ETI’s President), John Rivlin (ETI’s CEO), and Brady Duga (ETI Senior Engineer) chaired and vice-chaired the technical working groups that designed the EPUB standard and its predecessor standards. |
