Joint Combined Warfighting School Adopts eBook Technologies’ Electronic Distribution Platform

Easy, secure distribution and updates of course materials lightens load for students and faculty, saves school over $100K per year

LA JOLLA, CA - October 20, 2008 - eBook Technologies, Inc. (ETI), the leading provider of end-to-end electronic book platforms and a full range of eBook products and services, announced that the Joint and Combined Warfighting School (JCWS), one of the colleges within the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC), has purchased 355 eBook Readers, software and technical support to be used by 65 JCWS faculty members and more than 1,000 students per year. The eBooks will help JCWS reduce the cost and complexity of distributing printed materials, saving the school nearly $104,000 annually.

JCWS prepares students to plan operational level warfighting for joint and combined military forces. About 250 students attend class each of the four sessions per year, totaling about 1,000 students per year. The eBook system will provide JFSC with a controlled, secure way for students and faculty to access sensitive course material, while giving curriculum administrators the ability to centrally manage content.

eBooks offer a feature-rich platform and color viewing, enabling easy reading of complex charts and graphs. The lightweight, compact footprint enables users to easily carry massive amounts of course material home or while traveling, improving productivity. The electronic format and central control makes updates rapid and easily executable; staff can make changes to materials securely and cost-effectively over a server connection.

“Distributing paper materials is expensive for the school and bulky for faculty and students,” said George Brown, former Curriculum Coordinator at JCWS. “With eBooks, we can update curriculum as needed by just putting the information on the server once. Users simply connect to the server, push a button and upload the new information. No formal training is required, because the interface is so intuitive. eBooks are much more efficient and save the school a lot of money.”

eBooks offer control, fast distribution
ETI’s platform offers many advantages over paper distribution. ETI’s eBooks are designed to be low-cost, hand-held devices that are lightweight and easy to use, with large screens for optimum display of paginated text and graphics. A secure content server and management system is at the heart of the system. Network Services provides a centralized server system for registration, authentication and content database services, including an Online Bookshelf from which users can download content. eBook Express Manager enables the delivery, access, audit and updating of enterprise content for groups of users. Finally, eBook Publisher enables automatic or manual content preparation for eBook use.

“ETI pioneered the market for eBook technology and remains the leader in electronic distribution technology,” said Garth Conboy, President of ETI. “The advanced platform allows for rapid curriculum updates and enables JCWS staff to maintain strict control over content distribution and access. These features are essential in an organization where security is of paramount importance, and budget concerns are pressing. We anticipate the eBook platform will be adopted by numerous governmental agencies as word spreads about their cost-efficiency and ease of use.”
